Listen

Did you hear me come in?
I was ever so quiet, tip toes,
Held breath,
Slow movements, silent, towards the bed.

Did you feel it was hot?
I opened the window, a little,
Cool air rushed in,
Soothing, soft, free from stifling heat.

Did you wonder why I was late?
Tired and weary,
Longing for comforting arms,
The eyelids were heavy, I dropped
Into bed.

Did you sense something was wrong?
Echoes of springs repeatedly pressed,
As I turned to my right,
As I turned to my left,
The moon was being chased away by the sun.

Did you listen?
Or did you sleep, peacefully, blissfully,
Oblivious to me
And all my sounds,
As you always are;
I close my eyes
And I am silent.
